The weather has been warmer lately and I can already feel that spring in the air. I’m sure we will see more snow days here in Colorado, but I’m already enjoying the return of warmer days and later sunsets. With later sunsets come evening sunset hikes. And oh, have we got a fun walkabout scheduled for your all!
In case you missed the announcement, the Picture Perfect Colorado group will be meeting up for a sunset hike at Pulpit Rock in Colorado Springs. The ‘Walkabout’ is scheduled for April 27th. The cover photo by Jae Jarratt is of the Pulpit Rock formation captured from below closer to the parking area. I captured to below view of Pikes Peak from up near the summit of Pulpit Rock.

We will meet in the Pulpit Rock Summit Trailhead parking area and hike up to the top to catch the sunset. The hike to the top is about a mile and all up hill, so I hope you are ready for the adventure! Click here for all details and to register for the event. Hope you can make it!

Continuing on with the theme of springtime, you know what else is a sign of spring? You guessed it, wildflowers! And specifically in the high mountain areas in Colorado, you might find small yellow Glacier Lilies. Like the ones captured by our featured photographer this week, David Ross. Who also goes by “Davidrosspix” on social media.

The Glacier Lilies are typically the first wildflower I see at the end of spring and early summer. Sometimes you can even find them popping out around fields of snow, which is probably how they got their name.
This is a beautiful photo captured in the Crested Butte area.
Before I moved to Colorado, I thought the best season for wildflowers would be spring, and apparently, I wasn’t alone in the thought. The reality is that the best season for wildflowers in the mountains of Colorado is in the summer. Like you can see in this beautiful summer photo David captured in the San Juan Mountains.

The wildflowers in this shot are Marsh Marigolds. And unsurprisingly, you can usually find them growing near water. If you have seen David’s work, I recommend checking it out.

With our next featured photographer, I have something a bit different for you. Weekend Vibes Photography looks to be a team effort with Holly Vanderpool and Ed Disner. From what I’ve seen on their social media, it seems that no matter the season, you might find them out capturing stunning photos of Colorado’s wild horses. Like this amazing shot of a horse name “Storm Chaser”.

And this beautiful portrait of “Astro”.

I’ve been up to one of the Wild Horse Areas in Colorado. These areas are usually very rugged and remote. Once I finally got out there, I was able to find the horses. However, capturing compelling photos of them was very difficult. I’ve very impressed by the work the team at Weekend Vibes has been able to capture. To see more of their beautiful photos, follow their social media accounts or check out their websites.
