Even though we have about a month of winter left to go until spring, it has been quite warm around Colorado Springs lately. Many say this is Colorado’s ‘false spring’ because we know what’s coming in March. I like thinking of the warmer seasons to come, so no winter photos in the blog this week.
I wanted to get this out on Tuesday, so I was going to do another Twofer-Tuesday. But here it is Wednesday, so here is your Twofer-Wednesday.
I wanted to highlight three members who I think are Colorado legends. I knew their work from before I even owned a camera. The first one is Jamie Rogers, you might know him as ‘Captain Colorado’ on his social media accounts.
Group Member – Jamie Rogers
I’ve been out in the mountains with Jamie before and I think his hiking abilities best resemble a mountain goat. And with those abilities, he is able to capture banger shots like this one in the San Juan Mountains.

Jamie is also well-known for his cityscape photos of Denver. I particularly enjoy his sunrise photos of the city.

Jamie has eye for planning for the light and stunning compositions captured with his drone. To see more of his work, check out his website and social media accounts:

Group Member – Paul Trupl
From the mean streets of Denver to the calm waters of Barr Lake State Park. The next featured photographer is Paul Trupl. This photo of Barr Lake represents this spot so well. It’s a great spot to catch the sunset and spend a while admiring the distant Rocky Mountains.

Paul’s work typically evokes feelings of peace and calm for me. Much of his work seem to highlight the tranquility of a place, a place you might want to pull up a chair and rest a while.

Another aspect of Paul’s work that I appreciate is composition. Like this photo from Steamboat, just spot on with the composition choices. To see more of Paul’s work, check out his Facebook page.

Group Member – Joe Randall
Last, but not least, in this legend endeavor, I bring you the work of Joe Randall. You’ve probably heard that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, I think Joe has a knack for capturing photos of the story. Like this shot of Garden of the Gods Park. This was a very rare flood event in the park, and Joe was there to capture the story. My understanding is the waterway that led to this flooding has been re-directed, so the story may never be told again.

Another story that Joe likes to share, and that I enjoy are his views of the Milky Way. There are many great spots to capture the night sky in Colorado, and I think Joe knows them all.

I’m pretty sure the first full Milky Way panorama photo that I saw was one of Joe’s. He has been full panorama views of nightscapes and the Milky Way. To see more of Joe’s work, you can see it online or in person.
